Movegreen's First Annual Toy Drive
Movegreen has partnered with Santa Claus to provide a little Christmas cheer to a few less fortunate children.  Every year many young children go home for Christmas break to a "Charlie Brown" like Christmas tree, many with nothing but carpet under it.  There is a large portion of the Santa Barbara community that can use a little extra assistance during the holidays, especially in these tough economic times.

We have decided to sponsor the hardworking students of Isla Vista Youth Projects.  These children are of Pre-school and Kindergarten age and are in need of a little extra love this holiday season.  Movegreen will use all donations for the direct purchase of toys that we will hand deliver, along with Santa Claus, to the children's school.

Please help us in making the lives of these young children a little happier this Christmas by contributing an unwrapped toy (Age 5, boy or girl)* or with a cash donation to go to the direct purchase of toys.  No donation is too small and anything can make a difference.  With each donation you may provide us with your contact information and we will send you a greeting card with a picture of the Christmas event.

Movegreen was founded by longtime friends Patrick Wilkinson and Erik Haney. Erik was working in the moving industry, while Patrick had always wanted to start an environmentally-responsible business. Put the two together, and the result is Movegreen.

We started the company in December of 2007 with one truck and a big vision: to reinvent the way people move!

What Are We Doing to Be Green?

  • New Trucks Powered by Biodiesel
All our trucks are new and meet the EPA’s Heavy-Duty Highway Diesel Rules of 2007. These new regulations mandate that trucks manufactured in 2007 or later produce 75-90% less nitrogen oxide and 90% fewer particulates than earlier models  They are also run on B20 biodiesel, a blended fuel made of 20% biodiesel and 80% petrodiesel. This blend provides similar power to No. 2 diesel, but reduces petroleum use by 20%, and reduces greenhouse gas and hydrocarbon emissions by up to 20%.
  • Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
We take the three Rs to heart and try to incorporate them into everything we do. To reduce the waste of cardboard boxes and packing supplies such as newsprint and bubble wrap, we started a program to reuse and recycle all of our packing materials. We also offer reusable plastic containers to eliminate the use of cardboard boxes altogether. When we do have to use paper we use 100% post-consumer waste recycled printer paper and print on both sides. We have also teamed up with All Green Recycling and now offer E-Waste Recycling.
  • We Plant Ten Trees with Every Move
When you use Movegreen, you can make a positive contribution while doing something you have to do. By teaming up with the international nonprofit Trees For The Future, we plant ten trees with every move, whether your move is small and local or large and long distance.

  • Carbon Free Moving
We purchase carbon credits through CarbonFund.org to offset the carbon dioxide emissions that are created by our business. Whether from the tailpipes of our trucks or through the electricity consumed by our offices, all carbon emissions associated with our business are accounted for.

Because we believe so deeply in the importance of taking care of the environment, we're suggesting ten easy changes you can make to your lifestyle. You might try implementing one green living tip at a time so that it becomes a part of your daily routine before moving on to the next. Ten Green Living Tips.
